Not rated yet   No Comments Published May 23, 2023   Updated Jan 23, 2024

This baby-led weaning breakfast is naturally sweetened using only fruit, and it is so good! For babies starting weaning, preload a spoon and hand it to your little one to put to their mouth all on their own. It will be messy initially, but I promise they will get the hang of it quickly! Chia Seeds are so amazing!

Why are chia seeds good for babies?

Chia seeds are an amazing source of Omega-3 fatty acids! Omega-3s are essential for brain health and development in babies and toddlers. Chia seeds also contain a healthy supply of vitamin K, Zinc, and protein making them a great nutrient-rich ingredient for baby-led weaning snacks!

How much chia seed can a baby have?

Chia seeds are high in fibre which is excellent! Just remember, the more fibre the more full your little one will feel so I recommend starting out small. I use a tablespoon of the milk, banana and chia mixture which is about 1/2 teaspoon of chia. This way they have room for other nutrient-rich ingredients.

Do chia seeds constipate babies?

No! Because of the high fibre content, chia seed can actually help your baby’s tummy β€œmove things along”. As noted above, just remember that too much fibre can leave your baby feeling full and potentially even gassy, so start small and remember to pre-soak your chia seeds for baby-led weaning.

This healthy baby led weaning breakfast is made with omega-3 rich chia seeds! This simple breakfast pudding is naturally sweetened using only fruit.

Method

  • Add the raspberries, strawberries and defrosted cherries to a bowl and mash until they are completely broken apart. Divide into serving jars for older children and into a bowl for your baby.
  • In a separate bowl, mash the banana until it turns into a puree. Add in the chia seeds then stir in the milk. Leave to soak for about 10 minutes while the chia seeds soak up some of the milk and the mixture is a little thicker.
  • Spoon into the jars on top of the fruit compote filling the jars 3/4 ways up. Add just 1 tablespoon to the baby bowl.
  • Refrigerate overnight. The chia pudding should be thick and creamy.
  • πŸ‘ΆπŸ» Baby Led Weaning – Serve with quartered fruit, I used one strawberry and one raspberry.
