One of my main motivations in starting to cook and create more recipe was to find a healthier recipe and healthy meal options for myself and my family. One of the areas that can be so hard to crack is healthy snacks, the temptation can be to grab something quick, pre-packaged and, all too often, loaded with sugar.

Lately I’ve come up with some great healthy snack ideas and created some absolutely amazing snack recipe that are both totally tasty and healthier. These fantastic healthy snack bars for kids are brilliant snacks for those busy days when you are out and about and need something on the go. These bars are a perfect finger food and so make great baby led weaning snacks too.

What is great about this recipe is that you can change it up to suit your little ones tastes and make different variations. Seeds such as sunflower, hemp, flax and chia help little ones to get the good fats, magnesium and protein that they need for their diets. I am a massive fan of Chia seeds as they can be stored easily in the cupboard and are packed full of health benefits, such as omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and fibre.

Just remember that babies digestive systems won’t be able to handle flax and chia seeds until at least 8 months old. Until they are around 12 months old you should grind any seeds down in order to make sure they are easier to digest and that your baby is able to obtain the nutritional value from them.

Kids seem to love anything in the shape of a bar but the ones from the shops tend to be unhealthy and also quite expensive. So what do you do? MAKE YOUR OWN! This might feel daunting for many parents but I promise, it’s easier than it sounds. Especially with this recipe! Packed full of Seeds, oats and minimal dried fruit, these healthy snack bars offer essential nutrients and will keep little tummies fuller for longer. So much better than buying store bought chocolate or energy bars!
