I love Halloween and I especially love Halloween party food! The weather is a little cooler, theres an autumnal breeze in the air and leaves are blowing all over our street. I’m just waiting for the first person to put up their decorations before I feel like it’s o.k to follow suit. Needless to say i’m already planning my Halloween party food and yes it is going to be a healthy but delicious one!
These very Creepy Witches Fingers are from my first cookbook (which you can find here). We have been making these healthy cookies for Halloween for over 5 years and my children will still ask me to make them. Besides, I know children get enough sweets over Halloween so I don’t really want to add more to their little tummies. It’s nice to have some healthier treats for kids on hand that still look creepy and festive too!

Creepy Witches Fingers Ingredients
Sometimes it’s the simpler the ingredients the better when it comes to healthy Halloween treats. You only need 5 ingredients for the cookies then only 2 for the blood (I mean jam). It really couldn’t be easier.
- Oat Flour: If you have oats in your cupboard, you can literally make oat flour in seconds! Simply add your oats to a blender and ground them into a fine flour. That’s really it. Oats are packed full of only good nutrients for your little ones and contain lots of B vitamins too!
- Bananas: One of my favourite fruits, bananas are super sweet, which means you need less (if any) maple syrup! Bananas pack a nutritional punch too! Packed full of fibre and loaded with potassium which is important for a healthy nervous system as well as helping the contraction of the heart and muscles.
- Peanut Butter: This gives the cookies a delicious nutty flavour and adds some texture too. You can swap out peanut butter or different nut butter, or for nut-free, you can use sunflower butter which is really nutritious too.
- Maple Syrup: I only used 1 tablespoon of maple syrup in this recipe and it makes 16 fingers. This means there is only 0.18th of a teaspoon of sugar in each finger. A teenie, tiny amount. You can also completely leave out the maple syrup for smaller children too.
- Baking Powder: This helps these little cookies to rise.

How to make these Creepy Witches Fingers
These Witches Finger Cookies are so easy to make. First, we start by blending oats into a fine oat flour. I used my Vitamix for this but you can use any blender or food processor.
Next add the remaining dry ingredients and stir well. This is the part my kids loved! Mash the bananas, add in the oil and maple syrup, then pour into the flour mixture.
To form the cookies into fingers
I like to slightly oil my hands with a little olive oil which prevents the cookies from sticking. Then form into little witch fingers. Press down at the nail to make a placeholder for the almond. Use a fork to make little knuckles then place an almond on the nail.

Creepy Witch Fingers
Prep time
15 Minutes
Cook time
25 Minutes
Servings
16 Fingers
Ingredients
120g oat flour
2 puréed bananas
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
120g nut butter (I used almond)
60ml rapeseed oil
1 tablespoon maple syrup
16 flaked almonds (leave out for smaller babies)
For the ‘Blood’
80g raspberries
80g cranberries
2 tablespoons maple syrup
Method
Preheat oven to 180ºC/350ºF/gas 4.
Put the oat flour, bananas, baking powder, nut butter and rapeseed oil into a bowl and stir until fully combined. You can also use a food processor to make your job a little easier. It should resemble a very soft dough.
Take about one tablespoon of the mixture in your hand and roll into a long finger shape. Use your thumb to press down at the top to make a fingernail shape and use a knife to add lines on the knuckles.
Place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and put a flaked almond into the indent for the fingernail.
Tear off a tiny piece from the end of each finger for dramatic effect. Bake in the oven for 12 minutes.
For the ‘blood’ (yummy jam), add the raspberries, cranberries and maple syrup to a blender and blend until smooth and silky. Serve in a bowl with the fingers. Remove the flaked almond before serving to little babies.
