High Protein Strawberry Breakfast Smoothie
Some days you just want to wake up to something like this! A delicious breakfast smoothie that is not only delicious, but is also packed with goodness. Unlike most of my other smoothies, this one contains no vegetables which is totally unlike me. However, it does contain oats, cottage cheese (don’t switch off just yet), milk and is sweetened with only a few strawberries and 1/2 a banana. Still super healthy and totally delicious.
Cottage Cheese in a smoothie…..WHAT THE???
Don’t be put off, your smoothie will absolutely not taste of cheese at all. Cottage cheese is super high in protein and it makes a smoothie incredibly creamy and delicious. I like having some protein for breakfast because it makes me feel full for longer and is great when you don’t eat a lot of meat throughout the day. I buy the Dunnes Stores own brand of cottage cheese because it is so, so good! Just look out for the white tub with the red label.
This recipe is simple to make, and is such a healthy way to start the day or even as a snack for you and your baby. Here’s why I chose the following ingredients:
- Banana. Great for thickening up your smoothie and gives you a good dose of potassium too.
- Strawberries. Sweet and delicious and jam packed with vitamin C.
- Oats. I have a serious love affair with oats. They are so versatile, are amazingly delicious AND are high in fibre but also are high in protein too! Isn’t that cool! All great reasons to make sure oats are a part of your baby’s diet.
- Cottage Cheese. Not an ingredient you would normally think of adding to your smoothie, but I guarantee, once you try it you will never look back! Cottage cheese is high in protein and will make your smoothie super creamy 🙂
- Milk. I used almond milk in this recipe and it is just so creamy and delicious, you can also use any milk of your choice too.
- Extras – If you need extra protein you can use a scoop of your favourite protein powder or boost with maca powder (learn about Maca Root here) for extra calcium, the choice is yours!
