How do I give my baby pancakes for baby led weaning?
These teenie tiny pancakes for baby led weaning are one of the best first foods for weaning ever! They are soft, really easy for little hands to manage and so easy to make too. Perfect as a healthy baby breakfast, but also great as a quick snack recipe for toddlers too!
This is how you give your baby pancakes for baby led weaning
Make your pancakes, then place one in front of your baby. Ensure your baby is sitting upright in their highchair with their feet supported. At the beginning leave out the plate and just place onto your babies highchair tray. Plates will normally end up on the floor or thrown across the table unless you get a good suction one.
Add a little dollop of Greek yogurt to the top of each pancake as it gives your baby a little extra protein and goodness.
Serve with a portion of fruit. For babies this would just be one sliced strawberry or 3-4 raspberries torn in half. For older babies 2 + a portion of fruit is 40g. This is roughly one baby sized handful. For adults a portion of fruit is 80g and again this would be a handful. It’s an easy way to track your 5 a day for the entire family.
How do I give my baby pancakes for baby led weaning?
Ingredients
- 1 cup 120g self raising flour
- ⅔ cup 180ml buttermilk
- 1 egg
- Zest of 1 lemon
- Juice 1/2 lemon
- 2 tbsp butter
- To serve
- Fresh strawberries sliced
- ½ cup 100g raspberries
- ½ tsp of maple syrup per serving
- Fresh mint leaves
Instructions
-
Add the flour to a bowl, then using a spatula make a well in the centre. Pour in the buttermilk then add the egg, lemon zest and juice and stir from the centre in until all of the flour is mixed smoothly.
-
Heat a non stick pan over a medium heat, then melt about 1/2 a teaspoon of butter.
-
Spoon roughly half a tablespoon of pancake mixture to the pan and repeat leaving a little space in between each mini pancake. This will prevent them from sticking together.
-
Once the top starts to bubble flip over (I like to use a little spoon to help).
-
Serve with sliced strawberries, raspberries and a little drizzle of maple syrup, then finally a few spinkles of mint leaves.
