‘Mommy & Baby’ Avocado and Spinach Smoothie
This smoothie is the perfect recipe for your little one and you! I named them ‘Mommy and Baby Smoothies’ because each recipe has enough for an adult and baby sized portion. My poor Oscar is off his food the past few days because of teething. His back molars are coming up and he is just not himself. I can normally get him to drink a smoothie so I have been blending up greens and fruits in the hope he will feel better soon.
When it comes to smoothies I never use fruit juice and I try to balance the ingredients with more vegetables to make them super nourishing. Spinach is one of my all time favourite veggies. It is known to restore energy and is also a natural, anti-inflammatory. It is rich in iron, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
Avocados are full of healthy fats, low in saturated fat, rich in vitamins (especially K), and also lots of minerals. Using an avocado in a smoothie may not sound the greatest of ideas but, when blended it becomes deliciously creamy and silky and you can barely taste that it’s there.
I used a full banana and the juice of 1/2 of a lime so to add a little sweetness and ensure my little one would drink it, I also added a couple of medjool dates. If you don’t have medjool dates you can use a teaspoon of honey (if your baby is over 12 months) or maple syrup if younger than a year.
Smoothies also make great teething pops. Just make up your smoothie, pour into baby ice-lolly moulds and freeze.
Have a lovely week!
