Sore Throat Natural Remedies - Chamomile, Thyme, Lemon and Ginger
We are well in the season for sore throat runny noses and coughs so this is my go-to recipe to help both you and your little ones get through a little easier. Made using only natural ingredients these herbs, mixed with lemon and honey, (or maple syrup for babies under 1!) is the most deliciously soothing sore throat remedy you will find. For little ones who don’t like warm drinks, you can freeze the mixture into baby popsicles and it still works the same way.
The BEST Soothing Throat Drink for Kids
Whether you’re worried about the flu season, the pandemic, or just a bad cold that’s running around, having something to ease your child’s symptoms if they get sick can be a life saver. Cranky kids lead to cranky mommy, and if momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy, at least in our house!
I’ve been making this sore throat drink hot or cold for my kids since they were really little and it’s an amazing way to both calm and soothe their sore throat. With the help of Vivio Junior Cough we are working together to share some recipes that will help to support your child over the winter months.
Vivio Junior Cough is perfect for children over 1 year +. It’s really soothing and so great when your little ones have a dry or congested cough and need a little extra relief. It’s all 100% natural and free from artificial colors and sweeteners. This recipe will help, too!
Why do these natural ingredients work great as sore throat remedies?
Sore throat natural remedies revolve around some time-honored plants.
I’ve used this sore throat remedy countless times with my kids. It obviously can’t take away your child’s discomfort entirely but it helps ease their pain. If you’re wondering what drinks help a sore throat, this is it! Less pain means they can more easily rest and get better sooner.
Chamomile is a natural medicine that helps treat teething, sore throats, and eases sleep.
Sore throat runny nose remedies, like this one, often also include thyme. Thyme contains flavonoids that relax the throat muscles and can help reduce coughing too. It is also packed with vitamin C and iron and is a natural immune system booster!
When it comes to kids with cold symptoms like a sore throat stuffy nose, and cough, lemon can help as it too is high in vitamin C, and can reduce phlegm by breaking it up. For it’s part, ginger tastes great and boasts antiviral as well as antibacterial properties. Packed with power!
Sore throat stuffy nose, and sore throat dry cough combos can be hard on kids and adults, alike. The power of natural plant remedies, plus a lot of love, care, rest, and attention can help everyone get better sooner.
Why can’t babies have honey under 1?
I have to end this entry with a bit of a warning. Never give honey to a child under the age of 1. This is because honey can cause infant botulism which can lead to paralysis and death. Yikes! Honey is one of the only foods in North America linked to this illness. If an infant ingests either pasteurized or unpasteurized honey that contains the bacteria, spores can grow and then produce toxins. Bad news!
So, for children aged 6 months to 1 year, swap honey with maple syrup to sweeten. Stay safe!
