Super Easy Apple Rollups

Super Easy Apple Rollups – Refined Sugar Free Baby Led Feeding.

All week I have been trying to figure out what I could do with my multitude of stewed apples. Theres only so much room in my freezer and already there are 15 bags of sauce in there. It wasn’t until I was in the supermarket yesterday that I saw the dried fruit winders and had an idea to make my own sugar free healthy version.

I made two versions in two separate medium sized baking trays. In the first I just put apple sauce and in the second I added 2 medjoool dates and a 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg. They both turned out fab and everything photographed is now eaten by all the kids currently playing in my front garden smile emoticon (and the rest have been devoured by me 🙂 They are easy for little babies to suck on and are the best way ever of getting kids to eat apples.

Ingredients

2 Cups Homemade Apple Sauce (roughly 4 apples)
2 Medjool Dates (Optional)
1/4 Teaspoon Nutmeg (Optional)

Method

  1. Heat your oven to it’s lowest setting. (Mine goes down to 80ºC/175ºF)
  2. If you are using the dates and nutmeg blend them with your apple sauce until really smooth (or just skip this step if you want pure sauce).
  3. Line a medium sized baking tray with parchment paper and pour your apple sauce in and spread evenly. It should come up about 5mm or so.
  4. Place your tray into the oven and leave it for between 8-9 hours. It should completely dry out and not have any soft/puree in it (your aiming to dry out the apple not cook it).
  5. When it feels completely dry and has no sticky parts to it take the tray out of the oven. The apple will have stuck to the paper but I used a spatula on the corners and was able to easily peel the apple and paper apart.
  6. Use a scissors to cut them into baby strips of apply yumminess.

Recipe Notes

To make apple sauce (apple purée) simply peel and core the apples and then cut into small pieces. Place in a saucepan and for every apple add roughly 2 tablespoons of water. Turn the heat on and bring to the boil, then turn the heat down really low, put a lid on your pot and allow to simmer for about 10 minutes. Transfer your apples to your blender (or use a soup blender in the pot) and blend until it becomes a smooth purée.
