Chocolate Avocado Mousse for Baby Led Weaning

I am a huge fan of using fruit to sweeten dishes for my children especially for healthy baby led weaning recipes. For smaller babies, I tend to start with more savoury foods but when those babies grow up and see Mum or Dad or even older siblings eating a treat, you can be sure they will want one too. It is great to have a healthy treat recipe like this that you know contains only good ingredients; avocado, banana, unsweetened cocoa powder, coconut milk and yogurt! That is really it! I love when a simple recipe comes together 🙂

This recipe uses the new cocoa powder from Dunnes Stores and you can see the photo below for the next time you go shopping! It is bitter when you taste it directly from the container, but, add a mashed banana and voila you have a yummy chocolate! I also used a full fat coconut milk and this is important. The coconut milk helps the chocolate mousse turn into, well a mousse and if you use half fat milk, it stays like a sauce. Still not, but not as nice in my opinion.

Yogurt Topping

For the topping I used the new Greek yogurt from Dunnes Stores mixed with 1 mashed banana and a sprinkle of cocoa powder. Honestly you will taste this and you will never buy a sweet yogurt again EVER! These little jars take less than 5 minutes to prepare, they set in about 2 hours so make the night before and voila, a healthy breakfast, or afternoon healthy treat (or both!).

What goes in...

  • 400ml full fat tin coconut milk
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1 banana (or 2 small bananas)
  • 1 heaped tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 banana
  • 200ml Greek yogurt (substitute vegan yogurt for vegan/dairy free)
  • 1/2 tsp cocoa powder

How to make it...

  • Add coconut milk, avocado, banana and cocoa powder to a blender and blend until it turns really smooth and creamy.
  • Divide the chocolate mixture into small jars filling them three quarter way up.
  • In a separate bowl mash the banana, then stir in the yogurt.
  • Spoon the yogurt on top of the chocolate to fill up the jars.
  • Top with a little extra cocoa powder and refrigerate until you are ready to serve.
