Baby Led Feeding Coconut and Oat Chocolate Cookies. Aileen Cox Blundell Healthy Homemade Baby led weaning recipe. Zoomed in cookie.

Halloween was always a huge part of my life growing up. My mother never would dream of buying a costume or face paint and instead spent days sewing spooky ghosts or crazy goblins. She would then back comb our hair and paint our face with shoe polish. Yep, shoe polish 🙂 And we loved every minute of it. We then set out to scare as we went door to door trick r’treating, performing dances and singing songs for handfuls of monkey nuts and clementines and sometimes even a few coins where thrown in. Rarely would we get sweets or chocolate, it was mostly fruit, nuts and money.

As I write this I actually feel very, very old because times have changed so much. My kids still get nuts and fruit but they are mostly from the older people in our estate. Instead they come home with a haul of sweets, and when I say haul I mean haul, more sweet treats than they will see until the following year. It’s really hard to be the parent who says no to trick r’treating and my kids love it so much they would do it even if there wasn’t a sweet involved.

This year my children have finally convinced me to throw a Halloween party. You know the ones from your childhood – bobbing for apples, pin the tail on the donkey and trying bite an apple hanging from a piece of string…while your hands are behind your back.

They are each bringing a few little friends and because of the crazy ‘post party haul’, i’ve decided to make some yummy and healthier treats… spookily disguised as things they love. Pizza, cookies, Gummy Bears and Chocolate as well as jelly and a coconut ice cream.

Now onto the recipe – I’ve been testing out cookies for the past few weeks (someone has to do it) and my aim was to make the least nonsense cookie I can. This one is hands down the winner. It reminds me of a chocolate digestive, the really good ones that are both soft and delicious and the kids loved them! In fact they have a list of ‘things to make for the party’ and these are no.1! Yippeee.

For little hands these cookies are really good and are so soft and easy to manage. For the photo my cookies are quite large but I have since made them much smaller and got 16 baby sized cookies from the dough.

Wishing you all a very spookilicious and healthier Halloween.
