Is snacking a bad habit?

Snacking is often seen as a bad habit when it comes to both adults and children. This is because people tend to think of kids tucking into bags of crisps and swigging on sugary drinks. However, good healthy snacks can actually play a really important role in meeting a child’s daily nutritional needs. Kids love snacks, even the healthy ones!

Healthy snacks are a great way of making sure that children are getting enough nutritious food and hidden veggies into their diet. Especially if your child loves snacks but refuses to eat dinners. Healthy snacks are also the perfect way to serve some extra fruit and veg and pack in those vitamins and minerals that are so vital for growing little bodies.

Ingredients for sweet potato bread

Many of the ingredients you’ll find in this recipe are staples in any kitchen pantry. Really the only thing you might have to buy at the grocery store are the sweet potatoes!

  • 240g plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons bicarbonate of soda
  • 2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large sweet potato roasted

How to make the bread

Preheat your oven to 160ºC/325ºF/gas 3. Sieve the flour, bicarbonate of soda and cinnamon into a large bowl. Make a well in the centre, then whisk in the eggs, milk, butter, maple syrup and olive oil until it forms into a smooth batter. Mash the sweet potato, then fold into the batter. Pour the mixture into a loaf tin lined with parchment paper. Bake for about 50 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the loaves comes out clean. Serve with natural yogurt, chia jam or any other condiment of your liking.
