This is a recipe is for all you Mommas who have babies who just can’t have peanut butter and are looking for healthy snack ideas for kids. I have been inundated with requests for alternatives for some of my recipe and I am so sorry it has taken me this long to pull this together for you.

Sunflower butter is so expensive to buy and usually comes in small, teeny, tiny jars for crazy prices. Making your own however is SUPER cheap. In fact, 2 jars (as shown in my photo) cost me less than €6 and we are still working our way through them 6 weeks later.

Sunflower seeds are a very low-allergen food but if your child has a severe nut allergy just check with your dietician first before giving them this sun butter.

Sunflower seeds are one of the most common seeds and are available in most stores. They are an excellent source of vitamin E (good for the skin and eyes), copper (helps to keep your immune system healthy), vitamin B as well as a multitude of other minerals and vitamins.

Making any nut or seed butter is a long task for your food processor especially if your machine is older or not powerful. It took just over 30 minutes for my food processor to turn these little seeds into jars of yummy goodness. A huge tip is; give your machine little breaks, 5 minutes is perfect every 10 minutes. Use the time to scrape the sides down before starting again. This will help keep your machine good for the long term.
