This delicious dairy-free cheese sauce recipe for kids is perfect on pasta, lasagne or just add nachos for a healthy toddler snack. It is super easy to make too and the only bit of effort is soaking your cashews the night before. Not really too much effort? One of the biggest requests on Baby Led Feeding is for dairy-free recipes for kids with dairy allergies. Whether your child has a dairy allergy though or not, you have to try this sauce. It is one of the nicest things I have ever made, it keeps in the fridge for about 1 week and it was devoured!

Healthy Cinema Nacho Cheese Sauce

Oscar informed me that this recipe was ‘SO GOOD’ and that it tastes like a nicer ‘nacho cinema cheese’. I have never bought him nachos in the cinema but, I’m guessing I can blame and auntie or uncle. I hadn’t really thought about it, but Oscar (as usual is right), this tastes like a much more nutritious cinema cheese and the possibilities for its uses are endless! So watch out!!!!! So many dairy-free cheese recipe coming your way! Whoop!!!!

Do you have to soak your Cashews?

Soaking the cashews is essential! I have tried boiling to see if that worked and it didn’t come out as well. Simply add the dried cashews to a jar, cover in water and leave in the fridge overnight. The next day, drain and rinse and that’s it! When you blend them, they turn into the most delicious creamy sauce and can be used in so many plant-based treats too. Nutritional Yeast

I recently saw a post by Dietitian Orla Walsh on nutritional yeast and it’s amazing benefits. We mostly eat a vegetarian diet at home now, and fish once a week so it is so important to get B12 and zinc from other sources. This is where nutritional yeast comes in. Since I started using it, I have added it to soup, pasta and even added it to salad dressings. It is SO SO good! It has a taste like cheese so when added to the blended cashews you can kind of see how it will work as a sauce.

When you are buying nutritional yeast, make sure to get the kind that has B12 and Zinc. I have been using Marigold Engevita which I got in Nourish Health Store. Nutritional yeast is gluten-free, this particular pack has added b12 and zinc, it is also a good source of protein and B vitamins too! AND its cheap as chips! The tub lasts ages!
