Quinoa & Seeds Chocolate Nests - Healthy Toddler Treats
You are going to love this recipe for Quinoa & Seeds Chocolate Nests! It’s perfect for toddlers and older children, packed with goodness from quinoa, sunflower, sesame and chia seeds mixed with puffed rice and a little dark chocolate, then topped with fresh berries. You don’t have to wait for Easter to make these healthy toddler treats!
I’m always looking for a way to make my treats just a little healthier… That’s why I wanted to use something different than just popped rice cereal to make these fun little easter nests. If I can squeeze extra nutrients into my already healthy toddler treats, I feel like I’ve done my job. These nests are made out of quinoa, chia seeds, and sesame seeds then topped with fresh berries!
The Star ingredients for these healthy toddler treats:
- Popped Quinoa– You’ve probably heard of or had cooked quinoa in a salad or as a side dish, but have you ever had it popped?!
- Chia, sunflower, and sesame – Seeds are an excellent source of nutrients like healthy fats, Omega-3s, and antioxidants.
- Dark Chocolate Chips– Dark chocolate is lower in sugar than milk chocolate and gives these nests just the right amount of sweetness.
- Fresh Berries– First of all they’re pretty! Secondly, what a great way to give our little guys and gals fruit?!
- Crisp Rice– This is the typical staple for easter nest treats, they add just the right amount of light crunch to this healthy toddler treat.
How to make these yummy Easter nests:
First, you are going to need to pop the quinoa. I have outlined how to do this in the recipe instructions. Then you’ll want to ground up your sunflower seeds to make them easier to mix into the nests. Finally, add everything to one bowl and mix in melted chocolate chips, form your nests, and refrigerate!
