Healthy Snowman Cupcakes for Kids

Not rated yet   No Comments Published Dec 04, 2023   Updated Jan 23, 2024

These adorable snowman cupcakes are a super cute treat for adults. Also and more importantly though, they are a fun and healthy option for babies who are practicing baby-led weaning (BLW). BLW is a feeding method that encourages babies to self-feed. This allows them to explore different textures and flavors at their own pace. This approach promotes independence and helps develop fine motor skills. These snowman cupcakes use simple ingredients and you can easily modify them to suit your baby’s needs without compromising nutrition.

Key Benefits of Snowman Cupcakes for BLW

  • Textures: These cupcakes offer a variety of textures for babies to explore, from the soft and fluffy cupcake base to the creamy frosting.
  • Flavors: The combination of cream cheese and coconut frosting adds a delightful sweetness that babies will enjoy.
  • Low in Sugar: These muffins are sweetened with only banana making them really low in natural sugar. The frosting only contains 1 tbsp of icing sugar, but this can be omited if you are serving to smaller little ones.
  • Independence: BLW encourages babies to self-feed, promoting independence and confidence at mealtimes.
  • Festive Fun: These snowman cupcakes bring a touch of winter magic to the table, making them a perfect treat for holiday gatherings or winter birthdays.

Tips for Enjoying Snowman Cupcakes with Your Baby

  • Introduce BLW Early: Start practicing Baby-Led Weaning (BLW) with your baby around 6 months old, once they show signs of readiness like good head control and an interest in food.
  • Choose Safe Foods: Cut the cupcakes into small, easy-to-grasp pieces to reduce choking hazards.
  • Supervise Closely: Always watch your baby closely while they eat.
  • Be Patient: Let your baby explore the food at their own pace and avoid pressuring them to eat.
  • Enjoy the Process: Turn mealtimes into a fun, positive experience, focusing more on the joy of discovery than on how much they eat.

These snowman cupcakes are not only adorable but also nutritious treats for both babies and adults. Their charming little faces, wholesome ingredients, and alignment with BLW principles make them a perfect addition to festive mealtimes. So grab your ingredients, put on your aprons, and let’s bring some snowman magic to the kitchen!”

Method

  • Preheat oven to 180ºC.
  • Add the flour and baking powder to a bowl and stir, then make a well in the middle.
  • Add the milk, eggs and oil to a jug and whisk until the egg is fully combined. Pour into the flour mixture well and slowly stir, until it is fully combined. Then add the mashed banana and stir well.
  • Divide into muffin pastry cases, and bake for 15 minutes (for mini muffins) and 25 minutes for standard size muffins. Bake until a skewer comes out clean, then leave to cool fully.
  • To make the frosting, whisk together the yogurt, cream cheese and either icing sugar or banana. Leave in the fridge for about an hour to thicken.
  • To serve, top the muffin with frosting, dip in desiccated coconut and decorate with broken chocolate chips and orange peel nose.
